Thanks for visiting The Lovely Spoon!

My name is Jessica and I’m a 23-year-old Alaska native who currently lives in Colorado. How did I get from there to here? Well, by way of Oregon. After completing high school in Alaska I decided to take the plunge and attend college out-of-state.  That’s how I ended up in the beautifully green state of Oregon. After sticking around there for 4 years and getting my B.A. in Sociology (with a minor in Psychology) I was given the opportunity to move down to Colorado. Although a piece of my heart will forever stay in Oregon, I decided to try my luck in the Mile-High City. I’ve been a resident of Colorado since the summer of 2010 and so far it has grown on me.

Why did I decided to create a primarily food-related blog? During the college years my relationship with food evolved and changed. I went from eating the comfort foods of home, to consuming the half-way decent dining hall foods, to cooking for myself (and sometimes my roommate) in my university apartment. I also chose to go on a weight loss journey, which resulted in me shedding approximately 50 lbs. I learned how to prepare food that was not only healthy, but also delicious. I discovered how eating cleaner (less processed) made me feel physically better.

It was around this time when I discovered food blogs. I found them so fascinating — seeing what people ate and how they combined various ingredients to create delectable dishes. I longed to be one of those bloggers. Now, with a little encouragement and convincing from my fantastic boyfriend Drew (check out his cooking blog here!), I’m trying to make that vision a reality.
